    New York City operates a massive school construction program. Primavera helps ensure the doors open on time. And there’s no more digging through boxes of documents or visiting the construction trailer to get information.
If a school building isn’t finished come September, the students have no place to go. A deadline doesn’t get much more imperative than that. And in New York City, it must be met despite the complexities of building in congested urban surroundings, with attendant safety issues; the inclusion of highly sophisticated facilities, such as college-level laboratories and performing arts centers; and a major city budget crunch that requires tight cost controls. Every year, the city Department of Education and the School Construction Authority (SCA) face – and face down – these challenges and more.
    Moreover, New York City has a massive school building program. With almost 1,300 schools across the five boroughs serving more than a million students, expansion and new construction are ongoing. SCA finished sixteen complete new schools or major additions to existing ones by the first day of school this past fall; for next year, it has six new schools under construction. New schools typically range up to 185,000 square feet and additions can be up to 90,000. The Authority also handles all capital improvement projects, such as new masonry; heating and ventilating; electrical and communications infrastructure, including fiber optic cabling to classrooms; and repairs. The annual budget for school construction runs about $1.2 to $1.5 billion, and out of that, some $500 million goes for capital improvements, including repairs......
