In Arlington, Va., the Pentagon, scarred and torn on September 11, rises proudly again as the United States’military command center. Like the country's spirit, it was battered, but not destroyed. The effort to rebuild the portion of the Pentagon struck by hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 goes by the mythic name of the Phoenix Project. But the recovery of that area of the Pentagon – roughly two million square feet – is tied to a much larger project involving the renovation of this mammoth structure, regarded as the largest low-rise office building in the world......
