    Since 1888, the Swinerton Family of Companies, headquartered in San Francisco, California, has been providing general contracting, preconstruction, design-build, construction and construction management services for clients in the western United States. Swinerton’s long history of success can be traced back to its ability to adapt to change and apply technological innovations to the workplace. From the introduction of reinforced concrete at the turn of the century, to the use of real-time job site cost control in the ’80s, to collaboration via the Internet in the ’90s, Swinerton continues to embrace innovation. This has presented the Company with opportunities that otherwise would not have been possible.
    In April 1999, Swinerton Management & Consulting, a division of Swinerton, Incorporated, was chosen by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to help LAX ease airport congestion, create safer movement of aircraft and improve aircraft ground movement efficiency. To accomplish these goals, Swinerton needed to extend the Sepulveda Boulevard Tunnel by connecting the east and west portions of taxiway C. The project’s greatest challenge would be to build the tunnel extension with minimal impact to the airport’s operations or automobile traffic. LAWA also wanted to bring the tunnel’s ventilation system up to the National Fire Protection Agency’s 502 mandates......
