Since 1888, the Swinerton Family of Companies, headquartered in San Francisco, California, has been providing general contracting, preconstruction, design-build, construction and construction management services for clients in the western United States.     In April 1999, Swinerton Management & Consulting, a division of Swinerton, Incorporated, was chosen by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to help LAX ease airport congestion, create safer movement of aircraft and improve aircraft ground movement efficiency. To accomplish these goals, Swinerton needed to extend the Sepulveda Boulevard Tunnel by connecting the east and west portions of taxiway C. The project’s greatest challenge would be to build the tunnel extension with minimal impact to the airport’s operations or automobile traffic.
